We’ve featured sailor Peter Lange and his boat Puppy Dawg before. See here and here.
Well, this Puppy is now for sale due to a “bigger boat opportunity.” Hopefully it finds a great new home (perhaps with the help of this post :-)
Peter gives a fun write up below, along with some great pics. Enjoy.
If you’re interested in possibly purchasing this boat then you can contact Peter using the info below.

Weta Trimaran (Puppy Dawg) is Now for Sale
by Peter Lange
What initially attracted me to the Weta was the speed! I hate going slow. Also, I liked the fact that I could get a used boat for under $10,000 ready to go with such great sailing characteristics.
The boat is a dream under sail. You know all of those times when you are sailing and wished you could go a little faster, the Weta exceeds expectations in that department. Even in light air, the boat is very responsive.
The Weta will go upwind and downwind gracefully and with speed. Of course, my favorite point of sail is close hauled. It is incredibly fast on the Weta.
The one caution on the Weta – NEVER, leave shore or the dock without the main up. The main is your critical power source and is absolutely necessary to go upwind. The boat is so light, you cannot go upwind without it. Instead, you will just get blown downwind until you run out of sea room.
All of my days on the Texas 200 on the Weta are special, but the third day of the 2017 Texas 200 was one of the best. The wind had been blowing high teens all day, and I was buddy boating across Corpus Christi Bay. The other boats were a Cross 20 tri and a Hobie 18ish. In general, they were too slow for me. So, I would blast up past them, fall off and scream back by them, and repeat just for fun.
I followed them through Sting Ray Hole into the Corpus ship channel and watched the water go from bumpy chop to almost flat calm. I was excited to make the turn up the channel because I knew it was going to be a close reach in flat water with 15+ knots of wind coming over the channel spoil hills. I was not disappointed. When I sheeted in and got on heading, I took off like a rocket! The one thing I didn’t have was a knot-meter. So, I have no idea how fast I was going, but it felt like enough to pull a skier!
Before I sheeted in, I told the other skippers that I would meet up with them at Mud Island camp, because I just wanted to let the boat fly. When I sheeted in, I left them behind so quickly, that one of them commented later that evening, “You have a seriously fast boat!” Of course, that’s what every skipper loves to hear. Made my day!
Below is my listing “write-up”:
