Improved Sailing in Breeze

Briesje is the Dutch word for “Breeze.” Breeze is the name of sailor Hans Schipper’s little single outrigger.

We’ve posted about it previously here because there are things shown that might be applied to some small trimarans. Hans is both an experienced sailor, builder and bona fide Do-It-Yourself-er.

He wrote me last week with the following:

“Hi Joe,
Last week we had a temperature record in Holland with 105.00 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple of days. You needed an umbrella to protect yourself during sailing but it was great fun sailing and swimming with Briesje these days.

I replaced the middle part of the boat. An aluminium frame instead of a board to hold all the parts you need for sailing. It is lighter and stronger than the board. The total boat weighs about 50 kg and I can carry it to the water.

This frame looks more like a centre hull so it became a bit more a kind of trimaran ;-).

I think that this partially inflatable tri provides a small and as light as possible comfortable well sailing boat. I hope you will post this evolution of Briesje on smalltrimarans.com

I wish you a good sailing summer.
– Hans Schipper”
