Sailor Bob Paine has added some outriggers to his kayak. He purchased the outrigger/sail kit from SailboatsToGo.
Bob shares some thoughts and a few pics below.
………..
Attached are some pictures of the sailing kayak. Picked up the kayak from West for about $250.
Got the outrigger and mast step from SailboatsToGo for about the same. Mounted it on a board and winched it to the kayak.
Got a 1 square meter sail from Falcon Sails for about $150 and made a mast and boom from the hardware store with some hose clamps to hold the lines and a couple cleats bolted to the deck. Very minimal and quick rigging.
Tried it first time the other night and works fine. Of course, no substitute for a real sailing trimaran. However, this time of year in Florida, it is too much trouble to sail between thunderstorms and hurricanes. Furthermore, the wind is not consistent this time of year. So the little sailing kayak will suffice until the sailing season starts again around Nov. 1st.
Thanks again for your trimaran blog. Has really been helpful in showing some great ideas reduced to practice in the trimaran world.
