Here are some videos primarily focused on adding outriggers on a motorized canoe. The particular outriggers show here are offered by Expandacraft, but anyone could build them. See here and here for examples of DIY outriggers specifically designed as “add-on” floats.
I have featured this type of setup in at least 1 or 2 previous posts, but didn’t really focus on the motorizing aspect of it. And it can work (depending on the particulars, of course) with either an inexpensive trolling motor or a high-powered gas engine.
I love the fact that the beam doesn’t have to be very wide either. This makes it very easy to add side seats and some type of covering from the sun, if desired.
There are many canoes available, both commercial and self-build, designed especially for motor power – easily identified by their transoms. See here and here for some examples.
Lots of potential for fun here, especially for those who like doing things on a budget.
