Sailor (and skilled DIY builder) Andreas Kaltsas shares the new amas he built for his kayak sailer in this post. We first saw his boat here.

He shares both pics and a short video of the boat under sail. Terrific … thank you Andreas!

He writes:

I wish you Merry Christmas and happy 2021.

I sent you some footage of my updated kayak-tri, that I post many years ago. Even though the 2020 was a strange and difficult year, I plan and build some various updates to my kayak-tri.

The most important change was the construction of the new amas. I decided to double the volume and increase the length significantly and at the same time to be as light as possible. That for I chose to build them in XPS foam laminated with Fiberglass and Carbon fibre (vacuum bagged) as you can see at the photos I sent you.

First I laminate a layer of fiberglass and then a heavy layer of Carbon fibre. As you can see I make the akas holders also from carbon fibre panel. Finally they painted with a very durable marine paint (PU A+B ). The total weight of each ama is 6kg and the volume is 105 lt. and the length is 3.0 meters.

At the video you can see the first sail of the new setup. Even in light winds they perform great and the stability is amazing.
